What makes it special
It marks the start of Cāturmāsya, the four months of the rainy season in India, during which many devotees take on extra austerities.
How it is kept
As on every Ekadashi, grains and pulses are avoided that day and more time is given to chanting, reading and remembering Krishna. Each person fasts as they can: from grain-free meals to a complete fast. The fast is broken the next morning, within the window shown above, by taking a little grain.
