What makes it special
It is the Ekadashi of the waterless fast (nirjalā). It is said that keeping it is equal to keeping all the Ekadashis of the year. It bears the name of the Pāṇḍavas because Bhīma, who found it impossible to fast twice a month, observed it.
How it is kept
As on every Ekadashi, grains and pulses are avoided that day and more time is given to chanting, reading and remembering Krishna. Each person fasts as they can: from grain-free meals to a complete fast. The fast is broken the next morning, within the window shown above, by taking a little grain.
